It’s All in the Hormones

Updated: Aug 1, 2018

When it comes to weight loss or gain, there is the commonly held notion that it’s all in the genes. And while this is at least partially true, as we all have genetic predispositions towards certain physical conditions, this is not nearly as influential as some people may believe. As we have learned more about the workings of the metabolism, and the impact of lifestyle and behavior on its proper function, a much different conclusion is becoming apparent: it’s all in the hormones.

When we observe things at this level, a couple facts become apparent. One is that the human metabolic processes are complex, with lots of moving parts that operate in a delicate balance. But the other fact, that is perhaps way more important, is that this balance can be maintained in almost perfect harmony by simply engaging in a few fundamental behaviors; it is deviation from these behaviors that can cause our system to be thrown into hormonal and metabolic dysfunction.
